I pushed for 30 seconds!

Ashley
I saw my doctor on my due date Thursday, May 18. He said things looked normal and to make my 41 week appointment just in case. My first came on her own at 41+1, so we were in no rush to induce or anything. I just knew baby was coming though (strictly intuition, as I hadn't had any other signs), so I told him I'd see him over the weekend!
I had some consistent contractions on Saturday, not really painful though, and they went away in the evening. I was able to fall asleep easily, but at 2:30am Sunday they woke me up again. They were 10 minutes apart and painful enough that I had to rock through them. They eased off and I was able to doze between them and for a solid hour around 6am, but after that they just got worse and worse. I did everything I could to get through them. After putting my oldest down for her nap around 1pm, a contraction hit me that was so painful I started crying. I called and left a message for my doctor, then called my mom and husband. My husband was 2 hours away for work, and my mom was way on the other side of town. My mom could pick me up in an hour, so I told my husband to just hurry and meet us at the hospital.
We got to the hospital at 3:30pm. Triage checked me and I was 7cm already! They went to admit me, but I was in their system under my maiden name from a previous hospital stay TEN YEARS AGO, but they couldn't admit me until it was changed, so we had to wait. I sat there in awful pain for 15 minutes until they could get registration to fix it! Finally I got put in a delivery room a little after 4pm and my husband showed up a few minutes later. They started my antibiotics (I was group b strep positive) and a bag of fluids so that I could get my epidural as soon as they were done. I ended up finally getting it a little after 5pm and I could not have been any happier.
They checked me at 6pm and I was 9cm. The doctor said they had to wait until 8:30 for my second round of antibiotics before they could break my water, so my parents and husband went to grab something to eat. My husband just ran next door to 7-11 and then FaceTimed me from the truck while he ate because I told him he wasn't allowed to bring any food in my room until I was able to eat too.

It was around 7:30 when I started feeling the contractions again. It started getting painful and the pressure was building, so I told my nurse. She rolled me to my left side and I hit the epidural button. The pain wore off for a few minutes, but came back, so I told husband to finish up and come back. I told my nurse again that the pressure down below was getting more painful, so she left to go grab the antibiotics early. I checked my phone when she left- 8:09pm. A few minutes later, my water broke. I couldn't reach the nurse button, my husband nor parents were back, and I knew baby was coming whether we were ready or not, so I started to panic. I texted husband to hurry up. The nurse walked back in at 8:15pm and I told her my water broke. She popped the antibiotics in my IV, checked me, and said she'd be right back. Panic mode was in full gear.
She came back in a minute later followed by two other nurses and the doctor. One nurse wheeled in the table with all the tools, one started taking the bed apart, and the doctor checked me. Still no husband. The doctor said, "Get ready to push," and I started sobbing. I texted husband to RUN NOW and said, "no we have to wait!" My nurse just looked at me and said, "no, we have to do this now!" My feet were already in the stirrups.
I kid you not, my husband ran in the room at that moment and no sooner than he was at my side, my nurse put my leg in his hands, told me to hold on to my thighs and PUSH. Her head was out on the second push and the rest of her body on the fourth. I pushed for a total of 30 seconds, and baby was born at 8:26pm. It was the fastest, more surreal thing I've ever done. I sobbed through the entire thing because once I started at the thought that my husband was about to miss the birth of our second child, I couldn't stop! We still can't get over how fast it went, considering I pushed for THREE HOURS with our first.
Peyton McKinley was born at 8:26pm on Sunday, May 21. She weighed 8 pounds, 15 ounces and was 21 1/4 inches long- the exact same as her big sister!
