This depends on your partner but doing it for them isn't helping. They need to learn and find their own way in caring for the child. Every time you step in you're undermining their abilities and cutting their confidence. It can create a spiral where even the simplist tasks get them overwhelmed because they feel they're doing it wrong, don't know what to do or how to do it, and they know you'll just come and do it anyway. If you want to split the parenting responsibilities you need to have patience, trust, and understanding. Say things like "the baby likes when..." or "I thought this tip was helpful when I read about it, do you want me to show you?" instead of interrupting and going to do the task in the way you do it. Avoiding sayings like "you shouldn't do..." or "I do it like this..." can help a lot.

Generally my husband and I get up together. He changes the diaper or gets me something to drink and I nurse our son.

I do everything for our baby and around the house. I'm a stay at home and full time college student. I take care of our son 24/7. My fiancée doesn't help out, very very rarely. He refuses to wake up and help me with the baby in the mornings so I have to do that alone. If I really need help bathing him or need to do something around the house I'll ask for his help 50 times and then he finally takes him for a second and then tells me he needs help. Like today I was getting ready for us to go visit his aunt and I asked him to watch the baby so I can shower. The baby was crying very loud so I went to see what was wrong and he was crawling on the floor next to his dad while he was busy playing video games😡 guys just don't understand that we need help. If they would of been in our shoes having to do everything and take care of a child they would of lost their mind. I don't think they could handle it. I stopped nagging cause it gets me no where and just do everything myself.

I resented my husband for the first few weeks. The more comfortable he became, the easier it got. And I didn't make him wake up early on bc I was on maternity leave. Now, we will take turns. I let him sleep in today, so tomorrow better be my turn 😊

my boyfriend was so awesome when he was home with us after she was first born but after that it was just me because he works 3rd shift. he would stay up a couple hours when he got home in the morning to watch her for me so i could get some better sleep but our daughter is 1 now so those times are rare. not that i really nees it as i do get a ton more sleep than he does, but its nice on the night where shes restless and i dont get good sleep

I just do everything, even when my husband is home. He's doing long haul truck driving and is exhausted when he's home and not very good at calming the baby down.

When our son was a newborn and nursing I did EVERYTHING for him. But being a nursing mom and a SAHM, it made sense. Once he stopped nursing to sleep and could take a bottle around 9-10 months, my husband started putting him to bed every night and still does that and he's almost 18 months now. If he wakes up in the night my husband is the one to usually change his diaper and rock him back to sleep. Night time is my "me" time and break time. I still do everything else all day but get a break at night which is awesome! I'm also almost 24 weeks with #2 so I'm sure I'll be taking care of that newborn 100% too but at least my hubby can handle our toddler so that I can.
