i have irregular periods and though i am not trying to concieve at the moment, i am worried this may mean i will have trouble getting pregnant when i am trying.

No, they dont "=" infertility  usually, but you might experience trouble getting pregnant. However you could still get pregnant on your first try. It all comes down to if and when you ovulate. Maybe try tracking ovulation now just so that you'll have some idea on when it is happening in your cycle for later on when you actually decide to ttc :) it is always a good idea to visit the doctor and talk to them about different options
