Overbearing grandparents?

I was wondering how involved the grandparents are in your LOs lives. I see my parents usually every other weekend but they live farther away so they will be longer visits, we text/ call occasionally but usually just to set up when we will be seeing each other next. 
On the other hand my MIL calls/ texts me several times per day and stops by about 5 times per week for shorter periods of time and it's always insisting on "alone time" with LO. I find this weird and really overstepping boundaries.
What is your experiences with grandparents and what would you say is normal?

My mother in law and father in law both come over often, my fil actually watches my son twice a week when I am at work. He will come over extra times as well. They both know I don't "entertain" them, but I've taken it upon myself that when they are there, I get something done or they do something for me.... I will tell them that I will shower or fold or wash dishes etc when they play with him.  Sometimes I will run to target to pick somethings up when they are there.

Once I started telling people that I would do these things it got easier because it's so much easier doing chores not worrying about him or where he is or if he's crying etc... now I miss them when they don't come over a few times a week!!!!

I wish we had more distance.   I'm the kind of person that calls and texts my parents almost everyday and share too much of what's going on in my life.   I don't have a lot of friends and really wish I didn't do this.   So I, in a way, invite them to be more involved than what I would prefer.  They aren't overbearing but tell me their opinion- which is opposite of what I am doing.  I actually wish my husbands family was here.

Tell her you aren't ready to be away from your baby just yet... And what does she need to be alone with them for? It would be a red flag if she was a man, and a no lol... I don't understand how you would want company over 5x a week. So hard to have things clean and entertain... I hate having people over seeing my fail attempts to clean the kitchen more than halfway. My parents watch my kids 3 days a week while i work. They live half an hour away. My MIL lives six miles away and this is her first biological grandchild. She seldom visits. Also I wouldn't leave her alone with him. She's younger than my parents but her health and hygiene isn't good.

My MIL comes over occasionally but I honestly see more of my own mother. She is super involved. She picks her up from the sitters house 3 nights a week because of both mine and my husbands work schedules and she's usually our go to person if we need a sitter. But she's never insisting on more time or dropping by unannounced. I think dropping over 5 times a week is a bit excessive. You can be involved but holy hell, sometimes it's nice to have an empty house.

My mom is super involved in my sons life but I wouldn't describe it as overbearing. She watches him while I'm at work a few evenings a week. She also comes and visits on my days off or we go to her. The only thing that drives me nuts is when she says I should do this or that differently. She's offered to watch him overnight on the weekends when she's not working and has offered to take him so my SO and I could go out. I've never let him stay overnight anywhere yet, it'll be probably a few more months before I let that happen. I've also only had her watch him a handful of time when I wasn't working. But I either had doctors appointments/my SO and I went to dinner and that was it. My SO's parents aren't that involved at all. They visit maybe once a week if that or my SO takes him there. But my son barely knows them and they constantly ask if he can spend the night... no freaking way. I think when it comes to overbearing you just have to put your foot down

My mom will watch the baby any time I need, which unfortunately being pregnant and a full time student she watches him maybe 2 days out of the week so I can catch up with homework for the week. She calls and texts me several times a day and asks how he's doing and if I'll send her pics or how his day at early headstart went. I love that she loves helping and checks on him because she misses him or just wants to see if he's doing okay. If I have appointments and I can't pick him up from headstart she picks him up for me or has her husband and they watch him until I can get him. She is always buying him stuff even when he doesn't need it because he's a spoiled little dude. I love she's so involved and supportive.
