let grandparents take baby out while babysitting?

Am I overreacting? I've finally worked up the courage to let my MIL and FIL watch our 8 month old baby overnight (my first night away from her). Hubs and I bought tix to a concert to celebrate our anniversary early before he leaves for a 6 week army class. They now tell me (a few days before) that they want to take her to church Sunday morning so are asking for the car seat etc. This makes me a bit uncomfortable! I wasn't expecting them to try to leave the house with her barring an emergency or something. Am I overreacting?

I'd be more worried about leaving her over night than letting them take her out and about lol we do our first over night without baby in 3 weeks 😲

Eh it's just to church & she's 8 months old so she's had several shots & is old enough to start enjoying seeing new things and places. I'd just make sure to discuss rules about people holding her and making sure she doesn't get too overwhelmed.

I think it's fine. If you trust them to watch the baby overnight, why would you not trust them to put the baby in a car seat and take it to church? I'm sure they are just proud grandparents who want to show the baby off. It's not flu season or anything, so I wouldn't worry at all. 
I would just ask them to keep the baby with them and not send it to the nursery if it isn't a church you attend and know the people, which I'm assuming it's not from the question.

Um no, not an over reaction. They didn't explain this when the original plan was proposed and if she's away from you so long maybe they should understand that she needs to take it easy. Are they sending her into the church nursery during service? Will they get up and leave if she cries if she's sitting in the back of the church? Gonna pass her around with their church friends? Will it interfere with naps and make her irritable? I'm sorry, lol not my son and I'm freaking out for you. But it's up to you and you know how your baby will act.

Not at all. I feel the same way. What makes me even angrier is when they take my son out without letting me know where they go!!!!

While my son has yet to do his first overnight yet... my mom does watch him the 3 days a week I work. I leave his car seat and stroller with her. She takes him to the store need be, she takes him for walks. I have no problem with it. I always leave the car seat even if she doesn't plan on leaving the house with him.. because you never know in case of emergencies. If I were you I'd just discuss some ground rules example: not letting other people touch/hold him or other things you're not comfortable with.

I work every other weekend and my husband works for the church and can't watch her Sunday mornings, so my in laws take my girl to church every other Sunday. It's hard for me, because I just hate the idea of her being out with them without me there, but I've gotten used to it. We just make sure there's rules. Only give her food that we provide (sometimes there are luncheons after), if you take her anywhere but church, you have to check with us, etc. I think for one Sunday it's totally fine. Just let them know if you have any rules you want them to follow.

A little late to the party here, but if you choose to have them take your babe to church (or maybe just for peace of mind after the fact), be sure that they are up to practice on carseat safety! My MIL buckled my daughter in once and the harness was VERY loose and the chest clip was practically on her belly. Thankfully their drive was only a few blocks in the neighborhood. We had several practice sessions after that incident! :)
