no ultrasound at 36 weeks?

My doctor just told me today that for low risk pregnancy her clinic does NOT due the 36 week ultrasound. Instead thy do a cervical check to feel for the head. If they can't determine by doing the check, then they do an ultrasound. Is this normal?! Mind you this clinic is part of a well regarded hospital in the Boston area. 
All I've ever heard is that an US is done at this point. I was really hoping to avoid a check until I go into labor... also, how can they possibly accurately estimate the baby's weight without an US? Freaking out a little 😟

Since when do they ever do an ultrasound that late? I've never heard of anyone getting one that late unless they had problems.

I've never had one late.  Weight estimations at that point can be wrong. they also do not need to do a cervical exam they should be able to feel your stomach to determine how baby is laying

Late ultrasounds are wrong on weight estimates 50% of the time and are linked to higher cesarean rates.

Deny the cervical check. It doesn't need to be done and you don't have to get anything done that you don't want.

Research Belly Mapping and ask your care provider if their competent enough to do it.

I also live in Boston and I've only had two ultrasounds. I had at 12 weeks to test for Down syndrome. Gender ultrasound at 21 Weeks. Haven't had any since then though. They usually don't do anymore unless there is a problem. I've had three pregnancies in Boston and only two ultrasounds for each pregnancy.

I'm in the US and have never heard of a routine 36 week ultrasound. For my first pregnancy, I had a 3rd ultrasound in the early third trimester to check a low lying placenta, and I will have a 3rd ultrasound this pregnancy at 27 weeks to follow up on kidney dilation. I do know that weight estimates from an ultrasound are not usually accurate.

I have an ultrasound sound schedule for 36 weeks but I have gestational diabetes and that in 2 weeks my last ultrasound was at 26 weeks

I'm having one at 32 weeks because I am a high risk pregnancy and that's at the high risk doctors office not my Obgyn. Haven't had one since 21 weeks.
