Anti-Depressants and Sex
Has anyone had to take an anti-depressant for any reason and gone through sexual dysfunction because of it?
I'd love to hear your story!
I suffer from panic and anxiety disorders so I take Lexapro to help me deal with them. Prior to being put on the medication I had a very high sex drive. My husband (boyfriend at the time) and I did not have sex before we got married and before I was put on the medication, but he did finger me, etc. and it felt amazing. Well about a month or so after starting the medication I noticed a change in sensation. It went from feeling amazing to numb, and then now a horrible ripping and burning sensation when we have sex. This has caused so much heartache between us since we just got married in November.
I've gone to the gynecologist multiple times to get help and I see a pelvic floor physical therapist twice a month. None of it has helped at all. I did some research on my own to see what side effects the Lexapro can have and I was shocked that my doctors hadn't told me that I should try coming off the Lexapro to see if I am having this intense pain as a side effect.
It's a struggle trying to deal with my anxiety, but I am slowly weaning myself off of the medication to see if the problem reverses itself.
Has anyone gone through a similar situation?
