When the father of the baby refuses to be involved, should you allow his extended family to have involvement despite him paying no child maintenance?

I have a friend in this same situation. The father wanted nothing to do with the baby and still doesn't. His family didn't want to be cut out, because of him either. My friend allowed his family to be involved while the father wasn't and it worked out for them and her son is 15 now. They did set some boundaries to make this happen and I'm sure it wasn't easy.

I don't know if this situation will work in your circumstances, but I thought I would pass this story on in the chance that's it's able to help.

If the father doesn't want to be involved, I would most likely want to close that chapter completely and focus on raising my child.
