Do you support the government withholding information to keep the peace?

EX: the government choosing not to release information on something out of fear that it could cause mass panic, start a riot, etc

Personally I don't think the Governemnt give people enough credit. I feel like the more we are informed the more we can uphold the "WE THE PEOPLE" type ideology.

If we can get an amber alert sent to our phones maybe we should be able to get some kind of alert on our phones for suspected terrorist attacks or something.

I mean for the government to be alerted by someone obviously it's an issue. Like how in London how those guys were on Gov. watch for 3 years but it took them killing people for people to come out with the juicy details. I think if that were the case in the states we have the right to know we have a suspect terrorist umongst us.

I think it depends.

Say that the government is holding it a secret that vaccines actually did cause autism. Then you'd have millions of people not giving their children any vaccines at all, and now we have huge amounts of what were preventable diseases and it's decimating the population.

So you tell people the truth and risk millions and millions of children and infants' deaths (and increased diseases/deaths would possibly lead to panic and rioting), or you don't tell the truth and risk some kids developing autism (which is not life threatening).

*Yes, I know vaccines don't cause autism, I'm just using it as an example.

The government does not get to decide which information is 'right' or 'wrong' to release to the public. I believe the facts should be the facts. And people can make what they will of them. If everyone is going to panic and start mass rioting then so be it. But god damn it that's the people's choice. If we allow the government to decide certain things like that for the veil of 'safety' that it provides us then we are giving up our rights to think, act, choose, and fight for ourselves. We become beholden to big brother and his 'protection'. If there is a hard choice to be made somewhere then I'd rather be able to fight to make that decision rather than give up my knowledge of it all together so a government (which is probably flawed and corrupt) can decide for me.

Yes and no. Just depends on the topic. I remember a few months after 9/11 another plane crash happened but they swore it was nothing. In the past year I read that it WAS another attempted attack... but I vividly remember the news saying it was "just an accident"
