do I need to take a class to learn how to breastfeed

I want to breastfeed my baby. I've never done it before. Do I need to take a class or is that something they help you get started with at the hospital?

Not every lactation consultant is the same. In America they are no requirements to call yourself and LC. If there's an IBCLC in your area take a class from them. They are the best of the best.

La Leche League is free. Go to llli.org and find your local chapter. There are monthly meetings you can go to while pregnant and with your child. The Leaders and members can teach you A LOT.

Read the Womanly Art of Breastfeeding. It's a great book by Leche League that really gets into how to breastfeed and why without it being difficult to read.

I highly recommend reading the womanly art of breastfeeding...and then they have breastfeeding support groups you can go to after baby is born when all kinds of questions are coming up!

I did not but I would highly recommend taking one. Breastfeeding can be hard. I had a different lactation consultant in the hospital everyday telling me a different thing and it was very overwhelming

Classes are usually fun and worth it. I would highly recommend!! Lots of laughs and fun and questions.

We took a class and found it very informative. I know the hospital provides a lactation specialist when you're there but we were worried we would be so overwhelmed by everything else going on that it wouldn't sink in. The class wasn't overly expensive and now we have some great resources for when baby comes as well as a person to call for some one-on-one support if we need it. I'm sure you can find all the information online but we are more Hands-On type of Learners so this was best for us

We had a lactation consultant at the hospital but I had no idea what I was doing or no prior knowledge to it before hand. I think taking a class would be a great idea and help a lot with getting started once the baby's born

They coach you in the hospital.  Some babies it's really easy and nor much too it.
