Handicap accessible stalls??

Ms
A few years back I was in a wheelchair due to a torn ACL. I went into the bathroom at a restaurant and all the stalls were open except the one I needed, the wheelchair accessible stall. I waited for the person to finish up and when she came out she saw me and said "oh gosh. I'm so sorry. I didn't expect anybody to need this stall, I just prefer it." I totally didn't mind waiting...but I was only temporarily disabled, I don't deal with these things every day of my life.
So my question is: If you aren't disabled should you be using the handicap accessible bathroom stall, or should you leave it open in case somebody needs it?
