lDR question

so my ldr ended about a month ago, and maybe a week after he got a new girlfriend to "forget about me", he definitely upgraded. he's still head over heels in love with me (or so he says) and he said to me "even if I did upgrade, I wouldn't be afraid to go back down😊" like what the fuck? I've been trying to figure that out for the last month and I'm honestly coming up with nothing. was he being serious? like the fuck?
