right or wrong?

So I really want to get some unbiased opinions on something that I am really pissed about. Basically looking for validation or reasoning why I'm overacting. Here's the sitch... my husband and I have been TTC SINCE November, my (step) cousin knew this and got knocked up by her bf of one year in February. Don't know if she did it on purpose or not, she is a known attention whore, but that's not what I'm upset about. I'm upset cause she just announced that she will be giving her baby girl, MY (her step) deceased granny's name. Now, all my friends and family have known that I have had that named picked out for my future kid since I was about 8. I was my granny's favorite grandchild (also something that everyone in the family knows and accepts) because my mom bailed when I was young  and she stepped up and raised me as her own. My step cousin has her own grandparents and everything but said my granny meant a lot to her and she's been wanting to use the name since she passed in 2010. When I confronted her she basically acted like she was oblivious to why her taking that name would upset me. Other than cutting her out of my life if she goes through it I don't know what to do.

You are allowed to be upset but I wouldn't let it linger. Sounds like you two aren't that close to begin with. 
She can name her kid whatever she wants and so can you. There is no rule that says otherwise. 
Family is family and family can suck. But they are hard to get rid of. 
Sounds like she is a little jealous of you so you should take all of this as a compliment and keep your head up. All that matters is that you and that baby are healthy. Keep things in perspective and you will be just fine. Good luck!

I would name my child what I want regardless of my cousin using the name, to be honest. I understand why you're upset though. It's special to you, and that is what matters. 
My brother and my cousin have the same name- my brother named after my grandfather and dad, my cousin after his other grandfather. Sure it was a little bit confusing growing up when we were all together, but that was it.

You said yourself you are just looking for validation. It seems extreme to think that she would get pregnant on purpose just to beat someone else to the punch. Can't you use your grandmother's middle name? Or last name if it was girly? It also seems extreme to cut her out of your life over a name.

That seems like a really immature thing to do and that sucks. But I think she may just be envying you, it seems to me like your the favourite child and that might have affected her a bit so she just wants attention from everyone else. I think you should talk to her and atleast try to understand why she did that and just sit down and have a really talk.If she still doesn't open up then it's not worth it, hope everything goes well :)

I understand the feeling is someone taking your spotlight my sister did it to me. I was 9 weeks pregnant. Literally just announced after first sonogram, and she finds out she's pregnant and tell EVERYONE right away! I was devastated. Long story short she got with an ex from nearly 8 years ago (both have two children)  and she comes the day after he shows up and says "hehe I might be pregnant" she knew I was pregnant. And everyone agrees that I have the right to be upset with her. She's due a month after me.

It was a dick move on her part choosing the name that she KNEW you wanted. But it's done now, and there is nothing you can do about it. Being upset will not change the situation, in fact it will only make you miserable. Just try to accept the situation for what it is. And if I had my heart set on a name - I would use it regardless. There are hundreds/thousands of other kids in the world that will share your child's name. I don't see how someone else picking it should stop you.

It's not just a name though. It's the only name I dreamed of naming my little girl for 20 years. And it's the fact that she didn't have a close relationship with my granny until after she died. It makes my skin crawl to think her offspring will carry on my granny's name.

When you get pregnant use your gran's name. SHE WAS YOUR BLOOD. WHO CARES WHAT ANYONE ELSE THINKS???

My grandmother is my everything and if I were in your situation I'd use my granny's name.
