breakup over polyamory any advice/tips ??

I recently had to break up with my boyfriend of 4 years because I felt so conflicted and didn't know or understand what polyamory was, but here we are. It honestly fucking sucks because if I knew this existed I think I could've communicated better with my boyfriend, but what had happened was that I wanted to be with more people, at least at nights (cos he works graveyard) just someones company not really sex. And he's strictly monogamous but still wants to be with me and I want to be with him. But I'm not planning on forcing him to accept my ployamory.... I kind of hope i don't feel like this forever because I really do love him and I just don't know what to really do :(
