Why is it that my niece only see the good in people. Her dad hit her and left marks on her. Her mom left him and hes trying to contact her and talk to my niece. She's always asking about him or says she misses him. She was around 4 at the time of the abuse now she's 6 hasn't seen him since and asks about him still. Is it because she has an innocent mind set? Or what.

Answer

He's her father.  No matter what happens, there will always be a small part of her that will love him and want him to love her. She needs to learn good boundaries and a what a healthy relationship looks like because one day, maybe a long time from now, she will reach out or respond to his reaching out.  When she does, she needs to know how to protect herself from someone who is abusive. Show her what real love is!

That's kids for you, there perspective is so warped by innocence. Whatever you do don't paint him as a villain, you'll only end up making him a victim in her mind and she'll keep him on a pedestal forever.
