painful sex 8 weeks post partum

I only had a first degree tear that my dr stiched up. My body healed normally enough, and at my 6 week appt. I was cleared for intercourse, my dr did mention I was a little irritated, but nothing to be concerned about.

My husband and I have tried to have sex maybe 3-4 times since I was cleared, but it's been painful every time - he barely gets an inch in. I'm not sure if maybe it's just my actual vaginal opening is tender (since I did put my own finger in and move it around inside and that was painless).

Is it possible that I healed up too tight and now my husband won't fit? He's very well endowed and it wasn't a problem before giving birth but it is now and it's killing me because it has been months since we've had REALLLLLY good sex and we're both finally feeling up to it... minus this roadblock...

Anyone else have this issue or have any advice??
