Depo-shot advice?

So I'm starting the depo shot next month around the 7th. I looked up all the side effects, but I'm just curious to hear from women who have actually had it. What was your experience with it?

I was on it for 8 years and just found out I have bone loss. Luckily because I'm 22, my bone denisty will go back to normal. It can also take up to 18 months to be fertile after stopping the injection. Just saying the side affects can happen. It worked really well and I never got my period that whole time. It just makes it harder trying to conceive now.

I took it twice. First time I loved it. I didn't have a period and I didn't gain a lot of weight. I stopped taking it after I lost my job and insurance and did NEED birth control. A couple years later I decided to use it again. I got one shot and had to stop. It made me super moody and was threatened my customer service job. Used the patch after that and that worked pretty well

I loved Depo so easy, no period BUT the weight gain was mental! It's taken 6 months of being off it to shake the weight.

I was on it for years. Loved ur while I was on it. However when I choose to get off it that was another story. They don't tell you!

Weight gain. Hormones pretty much just like going through puberty again! Beware my dr acted dumb when I talked about the side effects going off it.

I would not suggest it! No serious side effects while on it, but felt terrible when I quit getting it and took forever to get my cycle regular after.

I was on it for nearly 3 years while I was in college. I never had any issues. The first year or so I didn't get a period, then the last 2 years I would bleed for a few days at the end of the 3 month cycle. Never gained weight, no mood swings, no cramps, quick appointments, no remembering to take pills. The worst parts for me were unpredictability of a period, I could only narrow it down to a week window, and the 2 days with a sore arm. When I got off it I went to the pill for a few months then got off birth control all together. My cycles went back to 28 days with 3-4 day light periods. I didn't try to get pregnant for 2 years after so I don't know if it had any effect on fertility but I am 22 weeks now 3 years later. I probably won't do it again because of the long term side effects it has on calcium/bones, etc.

I was on it for about 8mo, and just recently stopped it. I hated it, it ruined my life. I was so grumpy, lifeless, and had absolutey no sex drive. It didn't completely stop my period but I got brown discharge for about 9 days every other month. I luckily did not gain weight. I thought it'd be a good choice bc you don't have to worry about taking something every day, and it was a little prick..but I'm so glad I'm off of it  it messed my hormones up so bad. This doesn't mean it will happen to you, because every person is different; but there is a chance considering a lot of women have had issues with the shot.

I only had one shot of depo worst choice I have ever made. I gained about 20 pounds, mood swings, bled of and on for months even after my depo round was over I would bleed sometimes more then three times a month it was so unpredictable and made me self conscious. So many pretty underwear ruined. I've been trying to have a baby for almost two years now I don't know if it's because of this shot that have caused my troubles 😞 never again.

I haven't heard many good things about depo provera. Also know a few women who have become pregnant while on it.
Talk to your family doctor about all of your options.
I personally was a big fan of the Nuva ring. Bit of a weird concept to wrap your mind around but I never felt my ring and it never bothered my boyfriend during sex. Super easy to insert and remove as well.

Horrible experience with it. Will never get depo again. I almost dnt want birth control at all cuz it was so tramatuzing for me. My mom forced me on it when I was 16 bcuz my sister had gotten pregnant, I didnt get off it till I moved out at 18. No kidding in those two yrs I was on it I gained 60lbs!!! I would cry every time my mom brought me in to get the shot cuz I knew it was causing me to gain weight, took me FOREVR to lose tht weight..
