Child at daycare has hand foot and mouth disease
Today my toddler's daycare sent out an email saying that a child in their care has been diagnosed with Hand, Foot, and Mouth disease. I have family coming into town this weekend and even if I didn't ... well who really wants their kid to get sick, right?
I am wondering if I should keep my son at home for the next few days, to see if this is a one-off case or if it sweeps through the daycare (when I googled it, nearly every firsthand story said it spread through their daycare like wildfire). What would YOU do?
- The baby was diagnosed at her doctor today (Monday) but apparently had no exterior lesions. Apparently this means she would have been contagious since about the middle of last week. She is not in my son's classroom but shares the same table and smaller child playground.
- Since HFM can be contracted more than once I also don't see a benefit to him getting it for the sake of immunity.
- When I text the daycare owner and asked "so what is being done to prevent the spread? I read you have to clean with bleach?" She was like "we just now found out but the people who are still there at the center will clean". This didn't really make me feel great, it was such a vague response.
Anyway what would you do if it was your kid?
