Can I go to the ER for this? Type 2 Diabetes??

I'm 19 and overweight. While pregnant I had high blood pressure and preeclampsia and the weight just added up until I had gained about 80 pounds, and no matter what I do i can't lose more than 10. I have a dark ring around my neck and have frequent UTI's, get dizzy a lot and feel tired and hungry to the point where I feel like I'm dying. I have been trying to avoid this but I have a lot of symptoms of type 2 diabetes... I want to get a blood test done because I'm terrified. However I don't have a primary doctor and my only thought is to go to the ER...? Will they give me a blood test if I ask for one??? 😥😥😥😥

Call your insurance and find out what doctors are in your network. Make an appointment, ASK TO BE CALLED if there are any cancellations before your appointment.

The ER is for emergencies.

I would just make an appointment with a general physician and express your concerns. Or maybe urgent care. But I don't know if an ER trip will be any better, just rack up a larger bill probably

Don't go to the ER. Get a primary care physician. IF you do have diabetes, you'll need a physician anyway. Please don't waste the ER staff's time-this is not an emergency. Do the work, find a doctor and be seen.

You can buy a tester and test your blood sugar frequently, to rule it out. Ultimately how we found out my husband was diabetic. But the main symptoms are going to be frequent urination and excessive thirst.

Oh and I should add that if the issue is you don't have any insurance see if there is any sliding scale clinics in your area they'll charge you based off income and your care will most likely be free or cheap

Most likely they won't run the test. Like I've went in for pain that felt like a ruptured cyst and they just did blood test and sent me home. Or maybe our E.R sucks. But it's best to maybe go to your local health department. Most will do free check up and blood work if you're elgiable for it.

To anyone telling her it's not an emergency on the basis that she just wants to be tested for diabetes, take your blinders off. Look at the bigger picture. Those symptoms are highly unusual and in most cases, extremely dangerous. They could result in a coma or cardiac arrest.

To the poster, don't ask them to test for diabetes. If it's an issue, they'll test for it. GO TO THE ER. Tell them your symptoms/severity and frequency and explain that you previously suffered from preeclampsia. This is crucial and you need emergency care. They'll figure out the problem and it may not even be diabetes, but could be something more serious. Any sane PCP would call an ambulance upon assessing you. Save yourself the trouble and go to the ER.
