Weaning from nipple shield?

Any tips on weaning from a nipple shield? My baby is 6 weeks old, and I am eager to get rid of it. She is a sleepy eater. She has latched successfully before, but usually screams and cries if we try without the shield. I've tried starting the feeding without it, and also removing it after she's been eating with it for a few minutes. She's too smart and knows instantly!
