Should I get dental and/or vision coverage for my newborn?

I'm 36w6d but will be induced at 39w.  My health benefits are due for re-enrollment while I'm on maternity leave, so HR is asking me to make decisions about an changes to my insurance I would like.  I will definitely be adding LO to medical, but our dental and vision coverage are separate and I'm curious to know what other Moms did or will do.  Thanks!

Depends. For how long are you making the changes? Can you change it again in let's say 2 years?
 Honestly I would have said why bother but...
When my daughter was 2 we discovered that she has something that the doctor and dentist described as soft teeth. She had to have extensive dental work at all her teeth. The teeth would come out and by the time it would be half grown it would have cavities already! My husband has similar problems. My mother in law lost all her teeth in her twenties! 
  So if you can change again your insurance when the baby is one or two then no but if you can't then yes. We were lucky to have our insurance to be able to deal with it. It cost around 1000$/session and the doctor would deal only with an average of 2 teeth per session.

I would say either both or atleast dental. My reasoning behind that is because sometimes a baby can have a lip tie. Depending on your insurance/doctor SOMETIMES it is considered a normal doctor procedure, sometimes it is considered a dental procedure. As for vision... depends on when baby is due. With my first baby I didn't get vision for her until she was 11 months old when we had to re-choose which benefits I wanted, but she was a feburary baby. With ny twins, they'll be born in August so... I'll add them when they are 4 months old because it's either that or wait the following year when they'll almost be 1 1/2. (My husband has bad eyes and so does most of my family plus his, so one of our children needing glasses early on would not surprise me)

I would get both cause a lot of companies have a waiting period. It would be good to have that period behind you by the time you may need it.

I had to take my baby to the eye doctor at 2.5 months. Turned out to be nothing but I'm still doing follow ups with the ophthalmologist every 3 months. Vision coverage turned out to be necessary for me.
