Measuring 2.5 weeks behind ?

Question

I went in for an ultrasound today. Based on my last menstrual period, I am supposed to be 7 wks and 3 days. Ultrasound showed baby is only 5 weeks.

I'm real worried. Anyone else have this happen before ? Why is baby measuring almost 2 and a half weeks behind ?

When I went to the doctors the said I was about 6 weeks pregnant which I couldn't believe it as I estimated myself to be about 4 weeks. Due to severe sickness 2 weeks later I had an ultrasound scan and I was measuring at 6weeks and 4days (8+4 going with the doctors). The nurse doing the scan said that dates could be a little wrong and can be common to have it messauring a little small at the first scan as by the second it could change. My baby is developing a little strong heartbeat and heading in the right direction. Also because I am still suffering morning sickness and nausea plus tender breasts at times is a good sign. I haven't had any other systoms showing it could be anything else. I really hope that it's just measuring small due to ovulation and everything is well. I pray for you and your little one and the progress is good 😊👶🏻.

Had my first ultrasound yesterday and the gestational sac was empty! The doctor said it could mean just that I ovulated late... or that the pregnancy actually interrupted itself at 5 weeks. I will have to wait until next week to go back for another ultrasound 😱😨😭 I cried my heart out. This happened to me on my first ultrasound. Went in thinking I was almost 8 weeks, turns out I was around 6. I must have just ovulated late. My doctor had a follow up ultrasound for viability, and baby was measuring perfectly on track with the updated gestational age.

Made a lot more sense too once we realized I was early along than expected, because I didn't get a BFP until 2 weeks after my expected period. Last appointment baby had a healthy 165 bpm heart rate and doctor said everything seems to be progressing perfectly ! So it can happen hun. Don't worry too much right now !

Same here! I had a mc in December and my body got all wacked out. Longer periods later ovulations.... we finally got our bfp in may and  I should have been 7w at my first appt as per my LMP but only measuring 5w only saw sac no embryo. I'm now 7 weeks 4 days and heard the heart beat yesterday 💚  going off of lmp isn't always accurate

Measuring smaller, alot of the time, just means you conceived later than you thought. Plus most doctors go from your last menstrual period, but most people don't get pregnant on or right after their period. They get pregnant when they are ovulating, and you don't ovulate till about 2weeks later. Alot of people don't take this into consideration..

You could have just ovulated late, or worst case, the baby could have stopped growing. What did the doctor recommend?
