I think that's bogus. If someone wants to control my after work hours activity they better be paying me for the full 24 hours of the day.

The pediatrician office that I send my children to has a policy where they do not hire smokers. It's a private practice and they prefer to make sure that their patients are never exposed third-hand smoke. Also, if you are not a smoker... the smell is very noticeable on people who do smoke. I think certain businesses that interact with clients, customers, patients, etc. have every right to ask for only non-smoking employees.

Personally I feel certain places shouldn't allow smoking.

For instant a food place nothing more nasty than your food smelling like cigarette's! Because a heavy smoker smells of it it sticks to everything 😷

I think it's silly. Nicotine doesn't affect the ability to get on with your job. People need to stop whining that someone's gone on a 2 minute cigarette break. It's 2 minutes. Don't cry about it. 
Plus if you're on patches or gum I find it even more ridiculous if they refuse to hire you.

For anything else it seems beyond frigign pointless and a waste of time.  Yeah, obviously charge smokers more for their health insurance but make them attest to it.

Smoke free places are also good, I don't need to be walking through smoke on my way in.

In some jobs it is prefect my fine to ask people not to have it in their systems.

A lot of job ads where I live now say "smokers need not apply"
