how often do you bath babies, toddlers?

This is a topic that my husband and I debated in last night.  Part of it is due to where we come from.  I'm Asian and back home it's hot and sticky, it's expected to take a shower every night and every day.  It's always been a part of my wake up routine and night time routine.

DH was born and raised in alaska and he said he grew up taking a bath once every few days.

I can't imagine a bath not being part of a child's bedtime routine regardless of age.  Even if it's minimal soap and just a rinse off wth water.  It's the bonding and soothing experience.  I remember my mom and grandma washing me or playing with me in the water when I was very little and loved it.  It was like pre snuggles before bedtime snuggles.  And babies do get icky! The poop and pee all over themselves and kids (should!) be playing and getting dirty, and sweaty.

We live in alaska and we both shower every day but for different reasons.  It helps me sleep/ wake up better and he smiles so he doesn't like me smelling it in him and I'm greatful for that.

I wash my daughter every night

I put my daughter in the tub every few days but she gets a wipe ghetto wash daily if not twice a day.  My poor kids have my dry skin so daily baths makes it waaaaay worse.    Summer time baths are more frequent when they get dirty but winters which are cold and icky here I push it out if I can to avoid to dry itching skin issues

Depending on my child I would like to make it a part of our bedtime routine. However, twice a day is a little crazy to me.

Pending on my child's skin I will probably do it daily but maybe not wash hair every day.

It depends on their skin. If they get horrible dry skin or excezma, then bathing daily, eve once, would be horrible for their skin and would make them itchy and miserable. I have HORRIBLE excezma and have my while life, and I still have trouble with my skin if I shower daily in the winter. It's different in the summer, but I still have to be very careful with my skin.

My husband also has bad excezma, so we're going to have to watch our daughter very closely when she arrives  (in like 6 weeks 😲) to see what her skin needs. But generally, every other day is what my pediatrician reccomends. Unless they cover themselves in poo, then they may need one off schedule.

Ok so when I was pregnant I was adamant that I would not bathe my baby every day, I considered it unnecessary and that it would lead to dry skin. Well, turns out my baby loved the routine of a nighttime bath and it helped her transition to sleep. Seriously, she slept so much better when we started a nighttime routine at about 2 months. So we started bathing nightly...we don't wash hair every day (more like every 3-4 days) and we use cetaphil soap and lotion to make sure her skin doesn't dry out. She just turned two and I'm pregnant with baby 2, and I plan to bathe daily again.

My kids get a quick bath every night. It is part.of their bedtime routine. They are 6 months and 20 months.
