Do you think labels are necessary

Of course they're not "necessary". No one HAS to use them, but if people want to, that's fine. Labels can help people a lot. I hate the attitude some people have about hating the labels people use? It doesn't matter. Everything in the world is labeled and people only get pissy about the new labels that they don't even have to use.

No but I do think they can aid in providing absence of normalcy, validity, and community.

They can be helpful if you want to define what you are or identify as but they can limit you too.

You don't need them, but I like 'labeling' myself because it's a personal preference. If someone tells me they don't have a label that's fine, but I like them for myself.

Sometimes labels can be good. Some people are proud of their labels. People shouldn't label others but people can label themselves

To some degree, labels help us easily communicate who we are to others.

As for really specific LGBT+ labels which has become its own micro language, I do see a lot of anxiety from people trying to find the exact right label for themselves. I also worry that they can be self limiting. On the other hand I've also heard some people describe them as empowering.

For myself I prefer the catchall queer, although I don't claim it often as I'm in a long term monogamous straight relationship.
