weaning 1 year old off bottle

So we just got back from our sons 1 year check up. The doctor said we need to wean him off formula and the bottle. She said we could quit cold turkey and give him whole milk and more table food and snacks. She also said the first few days will be tough because he'll want formula. Does anyone else have some advice to wean him off formula? He's use to having a bottle every 3 hours still.
