Any ideas what these spots are?

My son has a few of these spots but it's only on one side of his face. I think they are just teething spots but my mother in law thinks could be chicken pox. He does have a slight rash on his tummy but it's definitely more a head rash. He's been off food for a while now but I really do think it's cause his mouth is sore.

Could also be the start of hand foot and mouth disease. My poor guy caught it at daycare and the pediatrician said it's spreading like crazy. That's kind of what it looked like when his started.

If he had it all aver his body I would say chicken pox, but to me that looks like heat bumps.

My first thought was chicken pox. My daughter had a couple of spots pop up like this and within a few hours they spread. The next day, head to toes COVERED with chicken pox! They're clearing up now after a week. She is 9mo.

Any ideas what these spots are?
