abnormal pap/HPV

I just got a call from PP saying that I had an abnormal pap. They told me it is probably HPV, but Im not surewhat  kind. I was a little distracted with the news. Would they know/tell you what kind of HPV you have as soon as the test came back abnormal or do you need to go in again to know what kind you have?
