Does faith/religion define who a person is?

Do you think a persons faith (religion/belief system) defines who they are? Why or why not?

I think if your faith, religion, or belief system means that much to you, then it's absolutely apart of you. Your beliefs totally define you. Other things define you as well, but how could your faith NOT define you as well? It's your belief system, it's what you live by and what dictates your actions and views on life.

My faith is a part of me. It is part of who I am as a person. But my family, my career, my experiences also define me. I'm not only my religion and faith, but they are a fundamental part of who I am.

It gives me a place to go when I have no place to go...when I feel lost and don't understand what I should do, or when there seems to be a grey area between right and wrong.

Ultimately my religion just gives us a list of principles for living a good life. I wasn't raised in a very good area...without religion, I would have had no structure to cling to.

It doesn't define who a person is unless they allow it to. Of course it has a huge impact on who they are, but I wouldn't say it defines them.

I can't speak for others, because I understand that religion takes a back or non-existent seat for many people, so I don't define others by their religion. But for me, it absolutely defines me. Orthodoxy is a communal faith that recognizes the uniqueness of each person but not the individual, as we are all part of the body of Christ. So, yes, my faith/religion defines me, it is fundamental to my personhood.
