Chomping/biting?

Question

My little man is definitely teething, but no teeth yet! He's 6 months old and last night he chomped down on my nipple with his gums 😢 I cried it hurt so bad! I know his teeth/gums are hurting.. but he did it again this morning when my slacker side had finished it's let down... I don't know what I can do! If it hurts like that without teeth, I'm not sure I can nurse once teeth are in!

Answer

Pay close attention to the way he's sucking. They cannot bite while actively nursing. Once a bite happens break all body contact and say no bite, hurt mommy. After a few times the child should understand why they aren't able to sit on you. Before nursing you can use a cold wash cloth, breast milk popsicle, or something else to numb the gums a bit to make nursing more comfortable for the child.

My sister would softly flick her little one on the forehead and say "that hurt." He would furrow his brow and rub his forehead. After a few times of that, he stopped.
