5 weeks, cramping :(

I've been cramping randomly for the past week or so, which I was told was normal... but yesterday I started bleeding first brown and then bright red just like my period.. I woke up at 2am because the cramps were a bit more painful. I went to the ER Today and my hcg levels were at a 19 :/ the nurse said I could have miscarried or it's just very early in the pregnancy.. I am still cramping/ bleeding but not as bad as a period. Has anyone had a similar experience? What was the outcome??? This is my first pregnancy and I am very saddened and worried by all of this.. guess I will have to wait a few days to be sure..
