Announcement Advice

So...I know that they say it's best to wait until 10-12 weeks to announce. However, we will be having a large get together with all of our friends and family for my boyfriend's birthday and he can't wait to tell everyone. At that time, I'll only be 8 weeks, but soon after that, he goes away to academy for 14 weeks...and I really want to make the announcement before he goes away.

I've read a few articles encouraging couples to just announce it, not to wait. I just don't know if it's too soon. Any ideas??
