Kidney Stones while Pregnant
Anyone ever had kidney stones? Or worse had them when pregnant? I have had the toughest three days of my entire life. Im 33 weeks 3 days pregnant, and woke up on Monday with blinding pain in my ribs and upper back on my right side. I knew I wasn't in labour obviously because of the location of the pain, but I still went to labour and delivery since at the time I had no idea what was going on and figured that would be the best place to be if it was something wrong with the baby. I was in absolute agony, and couldn't stop throwing up from the pain. So long story short my kidney is trying to pass a stone but because my uterus is squishing everything up there the stone can't get past a certain point up by my ribs. They gave me morphine which at least dulled things down enough to let me sleep, but it didn't last long. They also did a pretty lengthy ultrasound, first assessing the baby's health (he's doing great, and he's 4 lbs 9 oz right now) and then checking out my kidney. It's so inflamed from consistently trying to pass the stone. I came home for a bit but it got really bad and I started vomiting again so I went back and stayed the night. They did what they could to make me feel comfortable but with me being pregnant I basically have to just hope the kidney will succeed in passing it or give up and bring the stone back into the kidney (not ideal but at least it'll stop the pain). I'm so glad baby boy is okay but holy crap, I honestly wouldn't wish this on my worst enemy.
So my question is, they had originally put me on T3s which I've been taking every 4 hours with gravol. They also basically just numb the pain enough to sleep. And today I saw my OB and he switched me over to Percocets... I'm so worried about the baby with all these strong drugs... I'm usually not the type to even take Tylenol for a headache. All the doctors keep saying they won't harm the baby on a short term basis. and I do trust my doctors. I also can't keep any food down and have lost 10 lbs in 3 days. Has anyone dealt with kidney stones while pregnant? How long should I be expected to be like this?
Any coping strategies are so appreciated as well, as I'd love to be less reliant on the drugs for relief
