Industrial Piercing Problems

I got my industrial piercing November of 2015. It took about 6 months until I could sleep on that ear. After that it was only sore if I messed with it or it got hit or stuck on something. Well in the past few months it has been really sore, and a bit swollen and red. I haven't hit it on anything and I still clean it because it gets little crusts on the upper ball while I sleep. I don't think it is infected because I have had infected piercing before and this is not like that. It's like the upper ear piercing hole doesn't want to heal, even almost 2 years after getting it. I haven't changed the bar, could changing it help? If so what kind of metal and what size would be best? I just don't know how to fix this. I would really rather not take this out if it's salvageable, so don't recommend that unless you know it's best!
