How can I quit my job at such a short notice?

I accepted a job offer and they want me to start this Wednesday and I want to finish the rest of this week at my current job. My current job is at a supermarket market I been at the company for almost 2 years now then I was transferred to one of their other stores when I relocated 2 months ago so I been at the new store for 2 months. I know the right thing to do is to give a 2 weeks notice but the new job didn't give me an official start date.The current job gave me crappy hours between 12-20 per week and hubby and I struggled to pay the bills so I see no point being there any longer.

You should have told your new job that you had to stay at your old one for two weeks. Most places will respect that you are responsible and doing what you should for your old job.

I think if it's a better paying job and they need to start training you on Wednesday and it's what is best for you and your family I think you should just quit I know it's a crappy way to go out but if it's what your family needs that's what I would do. I would just wait until they give you a official start date

Not that you necessarily want to be rehired, but they may disclose that to future employers who contact for a reference and it could hurt you. Companies don't want to hire someone that just picks up and leaves; it makes you appear to be someone that is unreliable and unprofessional.

Any reputable company will allow you the appropriate 2 weeks to give notice and begin. I would call them and say that it is your professional duty and the respectful thing to give your two weeks notice. They should let you.
