Whose getting a doula?

Hi All! I'm a FTM and due Oct 5th. My husband and I are on the fence of getting a doula. I really want one and trying to convince him how important it would be just for extra support. Have any of you had one and what are you thoughts on if it made your delivery a better experience?

I'm due the same day! We have a doula and I'm really excited. She came recommended by a friend who used her. Our doula has us meet multiple tomes for education on what to expect, a birthing class and coming up with a birthing plan. My husband gets stressed then just males decisions even though he has no foundation for the decision. I think the doula will help a lot with that. We also want the actual birth to be something that we share together only so she will be helping with crowd control. Hope this helps. I really think it depends on the doula and the needs you think you may have. I'm excited to have one and think it will really add to my birthing experience.

I am not getting a doula however I did ask around the women i knew and chose based on their experience with one. I've been told if your husband can advocate for you as far as how adamant you are on pain medication or no pain medication, what you want to do for labor if techniques and how you would like the birth to go then he may be all the support you need! Some OBs and nurses can try and push you into things you may not need just to progress you faster during labor but if it's not medically necessary then you or your husband need to be able to advocate that you don't want those kinds of interventions and if you don't think you can then a doula would be perfect.

I had one for my last pregnancy who I thought was a good fit. What a mistake that was... all she did was annoyed the hell out of me during labor and questioned everything the nurses and doctors did. This time around I have a good friend who is also a nurse and has accompanied several of our other friends births :)

Hello Due Date Twin!!! My LO is due October 5. DH and I have already hired a Doula Practice and I am SO glad we did. They are there to support/advocate/and make DH look good (perhaps that can be your selling point?) We just had our birthing class and my DH is feeling empowered - but also a bit overwhelmed. He is grateful to know our doula will be there in early/active labor to remind him of the many relaxation/pain relief positions we learned!
