$$ for IVF, is it selfish?

Is it selfish to ask for donations (gofundme accounts etc.) for IVF treatments?

A couple friends & I were having this conversation the other day & a point was made that if they "can't afford the treatment, how can they afford the child?" -- "IVF can often times result in multiples." My personal stance is if it is their prerogative to ask for financial help, have at it! But one friend of mine was pretty adamant about it being very selfish. Thoughts?
