Could I ask for an ultrasound.. ?

This is my first pregnancy. Im 8weeks and I have my first OB appointment tomorrow. If any of your Hubbys are military then u know the struggle of going to on post hospitals. they don't really do the same things as others hospitals and they give u all these packets and blah blah. Well they gave me my first packet which explains what my first OB appointment will be and it says it's a group appointment and it says nothing about an ultrasound. I really want one. Should I just go to a walk in clinic and ask for one then? lol I'm probly being dumb but I wanna see my baby and hear it's heartbeat!
Update: they told me I'm actually 9 weeks and I have an ultrasound on the 2nd to hear the heartbeat. this army hospital really isn't all that bad. It was actually really nice. And nurses were wonderful.

You can always ask but you should ask before you go in. Usually it's like making another appointment because it takes time.

You can drop your insurance to standard and go to a civilian place. thats what i did. only had to pay 130 out of pocket to the hospital. Soooooo much better than the army hospital here.

Tricare prime doesn't usually cover ultrasounds before 20 weeks, but sometimes if you go to your first appointment and tell them you don't know when your last period was you will get an ultra sound. Most OB clinics wait until after 10 weeks for the heart beat bc at 8 weeks the baby is so small and can be difficult to find. It can stress mothers out if the heart beat either can't be found or is hard to find.

In Canada it's the norm to get one ultrasound around 20 weeks then maybe one in 3rd trimester to size the baby. Unless you're high risk then they will do them sooner.

You likely wouldn't hear the heartbeat that early. At best, you'd see it on the monitor.

I'm military and I have my first OB appointment on Tuesday! I haven't gotten any packets or anything from them though. All I know is I don't have a definitely ultrasound till August 15th ): the military is definitely a huge struggle sometimes!

my Drs always give an initial appointment then you get scheduled for your first ultrasound after that appt.
