IUD strings hurting boyfriend?

Kaylee

Hello! So I just had the kyleena IUD put in 2 weeks ago. My doctor told me no sex for 1 week, and condoms for another week after that. While my boyfriend and I were using condoms, he didn't have any complaints. We just tried without condoms for the first time since before I got the IUD when I was on the pill, and he says that the strings are bothering him. I checked to make sure the IUD wasn't poking out and all I felt were the strings. Is there anything I can do? Can my doctor cut them shorter? He tried to move them aside and it was fine for a while, but he says it literally feels like one of the strings was poking into his urethra. He said if it has to be this way he'd try to get used to it, but I don't want him to have to be uncomfortable whenever we have sex. This was not something I anticipated, and because I'm prone to blood clots I can't go onto any other form of birth control.
