Maternity leave

So with my job I can take a total of 12 weeks (FMLA and short term disability combined). I don't have to take the full 12 weeks if i decide not to , but the thing is that if the baby gets sick later on and I need to take time off , my job will only be held for a week if I have no more FMLA left to use . So how does everyone else do it if their baby gets sick ?

Did you take your full amount of time off ? The thought of sending my baby to daycare earlier than 12 weeks frightens me (well it frightens me in general , really ).

I just don't know what to do and feel like I'm basically screwed either way and wish I could just be a stay at home mom or work from home !

Of course, work before family , right ? *total sarcasm*
