Sex before/after marriage??

Question

I'm a long way away from even needing to make a decision yet, but I figured it would be something good to start thinking about. I am a Christian, yes, but I'm not super religious. Waiting until marriage sounds nice, but I'm afraid that maybe I'd get stuck with someone I'm not compatible with. And before sounds good too, but I'd be afraid of not waiting/saving myself for someone special. If I wait though I might miss out on some great experiences and ya know maybe you need to test drive the car before you buy it??

I say it doesn't matter. I see the pros to both sides. I had sex before marriage and that really worked for me. But it might not be okay with someone else

My husband was my first. We met at a church camp right after we both finished high school. We lived 300+ miles from each other and did a long distance relationship for 1.5 years until we got married. We had sex after dating 6 months but we knew we were meant to be. I don't regret waiting in the least and I'm happy to say he's my first and my last.

I am not technically married under the law but if marriage is being in a monogamous relationship with someone you love and trust and share everything with, then I guess we're married.  We had sex the first time in high school, FYI the first time is usually awkward as hell and I don't know a woman who described it as magical or even good...  matter of fact the first couple of times sucked.  But after a while you find your rhythm, what pushes the "O" button.  Don't psych yourself up.  The thing that really bothered me about being one of the "sex before marriage" was actually everyone else's perception of what that meant.  I wasn't a slut and he wasn't just using me for sex.  He didnt pressure me and didn't bolt once he "got what he wanted". These are bullshit stereotypes, pushed by some ridiculous agenda.  But before you do make a decision please educate yourself on the risks and rewards and be safe!

I'm not religious, at all. I believe in sex Ed, comprehensive sex Ed. I will teach my sons to be with someone they respect and love. I will teach them safety. I will teach them protection. And I will teach them consent. I will not teach them sex before marriage is bad.

On the contrary, it seems as though those who wait for marriage to have sex, marry young. Marriage statistics tell us that most marriages that happen before post secondary education is complete, are destined for failure. This who marry between ages 25 and 32 after post secondary education is complete actually have a lower chance of divorce, much much lower. The rate goes up again after that, but those are other issues all together.

I had my career in good standing before I met my spouse. No way I awaiting for see until then. It's common for women to get their careers first now. Not many 28 year olds are saving themselves these days. That seems insane to me.

To each her own. I have friends who are high school sweethearts and have been together for 20 years and married for 12. Clearly it works for some. Personally, not for me.
