Too Soon?

Status for my SO and I
Together 3 years (both 22)
Both in school and living w/ our parents
Both making roughly 9 dollars an hour part time
How do I convince my SO that now isn't the right time to have a baby and that we need to be more prepared and independent before starting a family? Or am I Wrong? If so, what should I do ?

I mean no offense but you are not financially ready for a child.  expenses involved with having a child are not the ones you plan for. They are the ones you don't. do you want to have to give up all of your free spending money, if you have any, to put aside on the off-chance your child will need it? that is what having a child involves. yes, people have children at minimum wage but your life will revolve around the child. You will cease to have any fun on your own or money to spend on yourself. my husband and I made a commitment to only have a child when we when  we would nothave to change our own lifestyle. now, our children are a wonderful addition to our life but we continue to have just that, a life.

The best time to start a family is when both of you are ready. The most ideal time to start a family is when you're financially secure and are ready to care for another life. This can happen at any time.

Personally at 22 I wanted to party, sleep, and travel when ever I wanted to/could. It was also really important to me to be financially stable and live alone before moving in/marrying my bf. My thoughts were that I can Start a family at any time, but I will never be young and care free again. My husband and I started TTC this year at 31 (after returning from a 4 month trip to SE Asia that we couldnt have afforded if we had children) and do not for a second regret waiting.

Again, everyone's priorities are different. Figure out what is best for you and what you want out of your life. Then figure out how/if your boyfriend and starting a family fits into it.

Sit down together and have a realistic conversation- as in discuss how much money you need to save together to get your own place, plus the cost of bills, plus the cost of raising a child and set a goal together to accomplish these things. Nicely point out to him that raising a child takes alot of time and money and it would be unfair to the baby if you were to have one before you finished school and got on stable feet.
