How did you get your baby sleeping through the night?

For those who suffered or still suffering, what worked, what didn't?  Did you seek professional help?

Omg following because I am sick of taking so long to put my boy to sleep every nap and bed time just for him to wake up 20 minutes later if I go use the restroom or something 😭

I read everything out there that there is to read and in the end, I decided to do some serious sleep training via a blend of Babywise method and Mom's On Call method. So basically it's getting rid of bad sleep associations (bouncing/rocking to sleep, feeding to sleep etc..) and creating good sleep associations (sound machine with white noise, bath time routine at night etc..) it takes three days of consistency to make a real change with their sleeping patterns but man, it was totally worth it. I had to do a little modified CIO method because my daughter is extremely vocal and fussy in general but it worked! Omg it worked! Now my baby falls asleep minutes after putting her down in her crib without any bouncing or rocking or feeding. She's just comfortable knowing it's sleep time. It's so worth it. I think it really helps your child with learning to have three skills to put themselves back to sleep when they wake up.

Girl I feel you. My child's sleep is like the weather. Changes daily. One night he will sleep great. The next he won't. He screams when I lay him down to even nap and I don't understand why. I lay him down in the same spot every time too. It's not like it's a new place and he is getting used to it. I try to lay him down as soon as he shows me signs like rubbing his eyes and this week it's not working at all. He will go to sleep maybe 10 minutes and he is screaming again. I don't know if it's teeth. Growing pains. Or what! We bed share and I know it's a huge no no but it's comforting to me. I'm not a deep sleeper so I'm very aware of my surroundings and him. I don't move in my sleep either. I know it's probably time to try the crib but I just don't know if I can do it. I tried it once and I just cried and cried and he screamed. He scoots so much too. He can do a 360 in the bed. And he is constantly moving. Same way in the crib. He pushes himself up against the railing. Already a rambunctious little boy haha

not sure if this will help because I doubt know your current sleeping arrangement...  But my girl was sleeping terribly in my room so I transitioned her into her crib in her room at 3.5 months. She had turned into a light sleeper! I use she noise now too. it's made a big difference!

I think it's still pretty normal for babies to wake up in the night to eat at this age. Sometimes we go a whole night without waking but most of the time she wakes up and depending on the time we feed or just give her a pacifier and she goes back to sleep. We started using the magic sleep suit and that has helped a lot with the transition out of swaddling. We also have a strict bedtime routine that we never stray from. We do no lights or TV starting around 5pm. Then it's bath time around 5:30/6 and after a bath we let her play on her mat and then we get her dressed and feed her. Most nights she is asleep by 6:30. She eats again around 10:30/11 and then maybe again around 3am. Also daytime naps are super important because the better they sleep during the day the more they will sleep at night. When they are overtired they are harder to get to sleep and harder to keep asleep at night. For me this means staying home most days and not going out and doing tons of things so I can make sure she naps enough. I aim for 2.5-3 hours.

In all seriousness I think it does just happen. People can spend money on books and sleep trainers but it's all rubbish. Ultimately it doesn't matter what you try most babies can't/won't sleep through until they want to. But our babies aren't even 6 months old yet, you can't really expect them to be.

My daughter was waking up EVERY HOUR for about two months. I finally had enough and did my own version of sleep training. She now wakes up once or twice a night and we are all finally getting some sleep! First, I transitioned her out of her swaddle and started using a Zippadee Zip. This let's her self soothe by sucking on her fingers, while still making her feel contained. Then we put her in her crib in her room, rather than sleeping in her bassinet in our room. I think this helped the most. I keep her room dark and a sound machine on. At the recommendation of our pediatrician, I started feeding her rice cereal at dinner time and I make sure she's full when she goes to sleep. Lastly, I stopped nursing to sleep and let her fuss for a bit when falling asleep. The first couple of nights, she cried for a bit before finally falling asleep and now she gets to sleep pretty quickly. If she wakes up during the night, I go in and pat her back but don't pick her up. Good luck mama!

My son has been sleeping through the night since he was just over 3 months old. I'm not really sure what worked to be honest. Or if anything worked. What I do know is that even if he doesn't act hungry, I feed him every 3 hours. Even if I have to wake him up to feed him. I have heard that making sure they get enough calories through the day helps. He also transitioned slowly into sleeping through the night. It didn't just happen. He started waking up only twice a night then once a night and then started sleeping all night until about 7-8am. We've made a bedtime routine and he knows once he's in his crib, it's time to sleep. He very rarely naps in his crib. He still wakes up a lot through the night but he just kicks around a bit, talks to himself and falls back asleep. Like I said, I have no idea what worked or else I'd offer some solid advice. However, every baby is different so what works for one may never work for the other. A friend of mine has a toddler that never has slept completely through the night. Wish I had something a little more useful to say.

We cluster feed at night, after her last nap, at 6pm, (she goes to bed at 11pm/12am, it works best for our schedules.) She gets fed three times, and then a fourth feeding to fall asleep. She stays asleep for ten/eleven hours.
