Debating an early Ultrasound

I miscarried in March of this year and recently found out I'm expecting. Since finding out I've been counting down the days to my first doc appt and US to see that heartbeat and breathe a sigh a relief. But now after talking to some family members and reading more online I am a bit hesitant to have a US at this stage (8 weeks). I am wondering if any one has chosen to skip this first US and how you are able to trust that your body is doing what it's supposed to do.
