Is your one year old saying any words?

My son turned one on July 27th. At his 12month check up the doc asked if he's talking or saying any words. I stated he isn't but he does babble. She asked if he understands what I say. I said yes! However , she mentioned he should start to be able to point to body parts or objects. Ever since he started walking at 9.5 months he's been on the go so I can barely get him to focus on what I'm trying to teach him. I know my mom said I was a quiet baby and he just may be one too but I hope he's picking up on the things I'm teaching him.
