when to test? please help
ok I was diagnosed type 2 diabetic 1 week before I found out I was pregnant. we started insulin and monitoring immediately.... they had me testing at the 1 hour mark after meals.... after changes to my diet and dosage we had it fairly well controlled. my fasting levels are usually under 100 and they are happy with that, breakfast and dinner have been a little high, nothing over 150 though and lunch was around 100-120... but by 3 hours my sugar would totally bottom out, like 45-50....
however I have noticed that others test at the 2 hour mark instead of 1 hour... I did a little research and found that the one hour reading is great to establish the bg peak, and the 2 hour reading shows how your body is processing that peak... so this week I started testing at both 1 and 2 hours... 1 hour is still a little high but by 2 hours I'm usually down to 120 or lower.... they keep wanting to increase my insulin dose but again by the 3 hour mark it bottoms out, they tell me to eat more carbs to prevent that but when I do my 1 hour reading goes sky high and they want to give me more insulin... its a never ending battle and we arent finding a happy medium here.... which is more important? to know what the peak is, or to see how your body is handling that peak? I personally would think that so long as the insulin is bringing that peak down into control by the 2 hour mark then it should be fine... but I'm not a doctor... should I get a second opinion or does anyone have any suggestions?
I worry because I am now 28 weeks and my doctor said that my placenta is now aging prematurely... this can be caused by high glucose levels, among other things, so I'm really trying to keep this in check... can anyone help?
