Help!

I love everything about breastfeeding my son who is a week and 2 days old... but since yesterday he just wants to stay on my breast. Yes that means he wants to fall asleep with my nipple in his mouth which causes him to lose the latch on my breast. Which causes me pain. I tried rocking him to sleep once I see that he's falling asleep but once I put him down he's wide awake. Lightly crying for more. He latched well when he's wide awake but the moment he doses off he let's go of the latch and just holds to my nipple. Lately at night I give him a bottle of my breast milk and it does help but now I just want to give up and do bottle with my breast milk. Advice please
