Our journey through the NICU -UPDATED WERE GOING HOME!-
On June 12, after 2 1/2 weeks in the hospital, I went into premature labor & had to have an upward incision c section to deliver my babygirl. Adelyn Kay was born at 26 weeks 6 days, I I didn't know I wouldn't be able to carry full term until the doctors told me that I had a thin uterus & I'll never be able to carry past 36 weeks ( it's safer for me and he baby that way)
The day Adelyn was born she was immediately taken to the nicu since she was so young they were worried about her breathing, her skin, her eating etc. I was put completely under for my c section so I didn't even get to see her until a day after :(
The first 3 weeks of her life she was in an incubator in the big room of the nicu with a blue light put on her all day, with a cipap machine to help her breath & 2 tubes in her stomach for her to be fed. It was so sad to see my babygirl in that condition, I almost felt guilty. I fought tears everyday, even thought I knew she was going to make it just seeing her having to be put through that pain really hurt me.
After 3 weeks of being in the nicu they took her off the light and just let her sit in her little incubator with her cipap on her little face, and her feeding tube in, she was still too small to maintain her body temperature so we couldn't hold her yet. Most of my days I spent looking at her through glass like she was a fish in a fishbowl, I could really only touch her hand because her skin was so sensitive. At 4 weeks she was taken off her cipap & but on a cpap which is really good it means your baby can pretty much breath on their own without the help of machines, its just extra oxygen to help hem out. This whole time we never got an answer for when she would be able to go home, the doctors and nurses would always say " whenever they're ready just be patient" finally I got to hold her, my boyfriend and I had to fight tears the whole time, I love my baby so much & to see her like that in my arms made us so emotional.
At 6 weeks she was taken off oxygen completely & she started breathing on her own! It was a huge milestone for us!
At 7 weeks they started testing the boundaries & they would see how she could do in an open crib to see how well she could maintain her body temperature.
Today, at 2 months old ( about 8 weeks) she's in an open crib, breathing on her own, doing everything like a normal baby, and she's being prepped to start bottle feeding! She's currently 35 weeks 6 days & im so happy! They said she's doing very good for her age and she's on the path to going home within the next 3 weeks! My boyfriend & I are at our peak of excitement we're more than prepared to take our babygirl home, every second is like an hour but we'll push through it!!
Ps. She was born at 2lbs 7 oz, there's a full labor story on my profile! She's currently 5LBS 3 oz!
All of the pictures are in order from newborn to 2 months 😁

First time holding her

UPDATE: today, August 23rd we finally got discharged! I'm so excited to finally bring our little angel home, we have the nurses on all the floors we were on a special little treat box with a handwritten thank you card to show our gratitude.
I'm so thankful for everything they did to help my little angel get big enough to come home 💞
After 72 days in the hospital we get to walk out the doors with our babygirl, honestly the best feeling!
