Frustrated with NICU Nurses

Kirsten

Our little boy is 33 weeks and has been in NICU for 43 days. Our experience with the hospital and nurses has been pretty awesome up until the past few weeks. It started when he was given an eye exam which had to be redone after the pictures weren't save properly. After that, we were set back a week when he started becoming very distended. Turns out that some of the nurses weren't venting him properly between feedings. I wasn't able to hold him, there was talk of surgery, and he had to go through a GI contrast (which caused more issues) because of this. Once he started getting vented, the issues resolved, but even after that I would still walk in to see him unvented sometimes. Just the other day we found put he had been on doner milk for 2 days without our knowledge. There was a mix up somehow and no one saw my milk in the freezer. I am an over producer so it made me mad that not only was I not aware of the situation, but that doner milk was being wasted when there are babies in our NICU that actually need it! On top of all this, some nurses have randomly been starting his care times early (over half an hour early today) so by the time I get in to try to breastfeed he has already been fed through his NG. The excuse this morning was that he was fussy last night and she just wanted to get him settled. I have spoken to the nurses directly, but am so frustrated. I finally talked to the doctor this morning at rounds and he seemed to take it seriously, but I am just so concerned how much all of this is holding him back!
