I had to take a week off at work after a car accident. I was in pretty rough shape and despite monitoring there was a concern that I could have a placental abruption since I have an anterior placenta and I had abdominal pain. So, I had a terrifying and stressful week of bed rest.

I just received a phone call asking why I wasn't in today. I had spoken to my supervisor about it and he had said not to worry about work and to come back when I'm ready, but he's out of town now. I'm very upset. My office is like family to me and I feel like I'm going to be in trouble when I return because I missed time, but I had no choice? I don't know what to do.

Update: I work in HR so the "boss" is the director of HR. I'm supposed to be subbing in a different department apparently this week but was unaware.

Update 2: I've been out for three days of the week I was supposed to take off. No need for me to have updated them yet.
